Lanier Middle School is located in Neartown – Montrose. It is a Houston ISD neighborhood middle school (grades 6th through 8th), as well as a vanguard magnet school for students who are identified as gifted and talented by the district (in elementary school), or by scores on the Iowa and CogAT exams. It was built in 1926 and was one of the first junior high schools in HISD. The school’s name was changed from Sidney Lanier to Bob Lanier in 2016.
