Incarnate Word Academy (IWA) is located Downtown. It is a private, Catholic, school for young women. The oldest Catholic high school in Houston, Incarnate Word was founded in 1873. IWA is affiliated with the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston and operated by the Sisters of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament. The school moved into a new building Downtown in 2017. IWA offers a college preparatory curriculum as well as an optional concentration in leadership, through the Young Leaders Program, or business with Leading in Business, a partnership with the Wharton School of Business. In addition to academic requirements, students are required to complete 75 Service Learning Hours.
