Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA) is located Downtown. The school was founded in 1971 and was the first public school to correlate an academic program with the arts. The school moved to a new facility in Downtown Houston after winter break of the 2018-19 school year. Part of Houston ISD, HSPVA is a public, specialized, magnet senior high school, open only to students who apply and audition for admission. HSPVA is renowned for its arts and academics and is frequently named a top school in the nation and state by multiple periodicals and organizations. The school is a nationally recognized Blue Ribbon School.
