Dogan is an elementary school located in the Greater Fifth Ward. It is an HISD zoned school with a dual language English/Spanish school. It is an additive bilingual program for native Spanish-speaking students and foreign language immersion program for English-speaking students. The school opened in 1949 and is named for Matthew Winfred Dogan (1863–1942), author of the pioneering study, “The Progress of the Negro,” and president of Wiley College in Marshall, Texas.
