The DeBakey High School for Health Professions is located in MacGregor, just east of the Texas Medical Center. It was named after renowned heart surgeon, Michael E. DeBakey. The Houston ISD, magnet-only, specialized senior high school is affiliated with Baylor College of Medicine, and is consistently ranked as a top school in the region, state and nation. The school is a nationally recognized Blue Ribbon School. It offers 9-12th grade students a rigorous college preparatory curriculum which includes five years of mathematics and science, along with an introductory study of medicine. The new campus near the Texas Medical Center, held its grand opening on June 1, 2017.
