Carrillo is a public elementary school located in the Lawndale/Wayside neighborhood. The school is part of Houston ISD and was built in 1993 on the site of the former Parker Memorial Methodist Church. Named after local educator, Edna M. Carrillo, who pioneered the “open concept” classroom, it is a zoned school for area residents as well as a vanguard magnet school. Carrillo’s mission is to provide challenging, differentiated learning experiences to meet the needs of gifted and talented students.
