Blackshear is an elementary school located in the Greater Third Ward. Part of Houston ISD, it is a neighborhood zoned, elementary school as well as a health and science magnet school. The school opened in 1916, and is named for Edward L. Blackshear, principal of Emancipation Park School and director of Prairie View A&M. It offers students foundational academic preparation to be successful in middle and high schools that target the health professions and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math).
