The Medical Center Area includes the original campus of the Texas Medical Center, Hermann Park, from which it was carved, and a fringe of private development. The Texas Medical Center (TMC) is the largest medical center in the world, home to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center – the number one cancer hospital in the world. TMC has expanded its campus far beyond the original site north of Holcombe and east of Fannin, and has replaced the early restaurants and shopping centers on Main Street with high rise hotels, out patient clinics and professional buildings. Residents and visitors have plenty to do in the community. The neighborhood is home to the city’s zoo, Hermann Park, Miller Outdoor Theatre, The University of Texas Medical School, Houston Museum of Natural Science, and numerous eateries, bordered by several high rise condominiums, a private hospital and a medical museum.
