The Kashmere Gardens Community is located Northeast of Downtown, inside of the 610 loop. It is an historical community ranging from single family homes to multiple dwelling structures. The neighborhood has generous sized home lots, abundant green space, wide streets, and mature trees. The community is home to many churches of varying denominations. There are multiple civic organizations within the Kashmere community including Super Neighborhood 52, Northeast Concerned Citizens Civic League, The Kashmere Alumni Association and The Kashmere Former Athletes Association. Kashmere Gardens is within District II of HISD. Residents are zoned to the Kashmere High School feeder pattern which serves both the Kashmere Gardens and Trinity/Houston Gardens communities. The movie 'Thundersoul' is based on the accomplishments of the Kashmere High School Stage Band in music. Kashmere is home to Lyndon B. Johnson General Hospital, a 332 licensed-bed acute care facility; the Kashmere Multi-Service Center; and ProUnitas Inc., which empowers and supports the community’s youth. Residents have access to the McCrane-Kashmere Gardens Neighborhood Library, Mickey Leland Park, Hutchinson Park, the new walking, biking, jogging trail being built along Hunting Bayou, and a variety of eateries.
